October 28 evening (Baku, Azerbaijan), law enforcement agencies arrested the chief editor of “Khural” Avaz Zeynally. His lawyer Elchin Sadikov told Turan, that Zeynally was delivered to the Office of the Prosecutor’s Office on fight against corruption.

The reason for the detention – criminal case against him opened on October 19 on complaint of MP Gular Akhmedova. The latter has declared that the editor extorted money from her.

However, several days before Avaz Zeynally told  his colleagues that Akhmedova came to him and offered money in exchange for loyalty to the authorities.

* October 20 court officers confiscated the property of the newspaper in accordance with decisions of the courts for failure to pay fines at the suit of the presidential administration Ramiz Mehtiyev and fund manager for media support to the President of the Republic Vugar Safarli.

After the seizure of property against Zeynally also was prosecuted for refusing to pay a fine to the plaintiffs.

Board of Editors, made a statement which condemned the pressure on the newspaper “Khural”, calling the illegal confiscation of property.
